A Metropolitan Electric loco

Metropolitan Railway electric locomotives were used on London's Metropoltan Railway with conventional carriage stock. In 1907 ten units with a box design and a driving position at each end arrived (simalar to ours), these were later replaced by more powerful units in the early 1920s. The locomotives were withdrawn from passenger service in 1962 after electrification of the Metropolitan line reached Amersham and the A stock electric multiple units entered service.

In 1920 the British Goverment decided to site the British Empire Exhibition at Wembly Park, on the site of the pleasure gardens created byEdward Watkins in the 1890s. Wembley 1924 is the only loco in this design to be named after a place and not a person as the rest of the fleet was.
On the 11th August 2024 our Electric Metropolitan was given the Name of Wembley 1924 with the appropriate number of 15 which is waiting to be applied.
Only 2 of the original 20 are left. They are No5 John Hampden kept at London Transport Museum as a static display & No12 Sarah Siddons is used for heritage events. Last seen January 2019 in conjunction with Metropolitan railway Locomotive No.1 on steam excursions.
This loco has a lift off body so you can access the batteries and internals.
It uses a 4QD electronics system to control the loco, it being powered by two 12v batteries.
Two recent picture (April 2024) of Metropolitan out plying a train of passengers.
